ACRT Mission:
To support, educate,
and empower those who are effected by, or are caring for a person
with HIV/AIDS.
About ACRT :
ACRT is a non-profit organization that provides direct service to people
living with HIV/AIDS primarily in the developing world. Working at a
community level, we tailor our programs to address real life issues
facing people who have or are at high risk of contracting the disease
and address the devastating consequences to the individual, family and
communities in which they live. Liaising with other agencies and health
care providers, we strive to provide access to essential medicines,
education, services and support as well as financial assistance and/or
resources as are needed.
In addition, our team members offer a variety of skills to initiate
recovery, from crisis intervention and short-term care to information
clinics, orphan care, and self-sustaining work and training opportunities.
ACRT was conceived in 2000 through the work of Lizzy Walker. While travelling
in Nigeria , she began working with local goups and individuals, returning
yearly with medical supplies, nutritional supplements and donations
to help people suffering from HIV/AIDS and other poverty related diseases.
Being acutely aware of the limited resources, time and energy that she
alone could offer and faced with the staggering number of people in
need, the ACRT team was created and achieved charitable status in 2008.
Team members travel to high infection rate areas to provide programs
in their various areas of expertise such as medical, educational, psychological
and emotional counseling.
They, along with Lizzy, continue to share her experience and vision:
working within communities, advocating for and supporting people living
with HIV/AIDS or those who have been negatively impacted by it and provide
direct intervention and recovery assistance.
